Art I Love: William S. Rice

I love going to art museums! While my favorite style is modern art, many artists inspire me. My husband and I visited the Crocker Art Museum while we lived near Sacramento, California and I was surprised by the variety of art they had on display. Ceramics, European paintings, African, Asian and Oceanic Art, not to mention the beautiful Crocker Mansion that is adjacent to the museum. One of the temporary galleries was devoted to California artists. Here is where I met my newest obsession: William S. Rice.   Rice is known for his woodblock prints and his association with the Arts...

Home is Where the Navy Sends Us

Inspiration

My brother is in the Navy, so he and his sweet wife will be moving around a lot during their lifetime. Along with the struggles this entails, it is also an exciting adventure of exploring new places. They recently moved into a new home, so my mom tasked me with creating a gift for them: a sign that says "Home is where the Navy send us". You may have seen signs like these in gift shops or on Etsy, but I wanted to create my own. I hope you enjoy my little craft project!

Throw Pillows & Felt Flowers

Inspiration

My living room used to consist of brown furniture with red accents in my rug, pillows & accessories. After a few years I grew bored with the look, so I recently swapped out the red with lime green! It really brightens up my living space and looks more modern. The hardest piece of the re-decoration were the throw pillows on the couch. I was having an awful time finding what I wanted despite visiting my favorite shops: TJ Maxx Home Goods, Hobby Lobby, Pier 1, and Marshall's. No luck.  However, my mom was super helpful and found a DIY...

His Sovereignty Began in Genesis

Inspiration

This past year was my first year in BSF, Bible Study Fellowship, and we studied the book of Genesis. In the first lecture of the year, my teaching leader said that “Genesis was written to tell the Israelites that their lives were held in the hands of a sovereign God, rather than in the stars or the many gods of Babylon”. As we studied each chapter of Genesis, I marveled at how God overcame the sins of men and continued to show His grace, mercy and most of all, His sovereignty. My favorite example was with Abraham & Isaac on Mount...

The Recipe Box at Point Sur Lighthouse

Inspiration

My mom came to visit not long ago, and since she is a fan of lighthouses, we went on a tour of the Point Sur Light Station. It's located on Highway 1 near Big Sur, south of Monterey. Point Sur was established in 1889 and automated in 1972. It is now part of Point Sur Historic Park and is still used as a navigational aid today.    They're in the process of restoring the light station and they've tackled quite a bit already! The lighthouse keeper's house was restored to what it may have looked like in the 1950s. It...
